Mesh WiFi / Range Extenders Breaking Bitaxe on Bitmern Solo

Your mesh system or range extender looks great on a phone speedtest — until the Bitaxe starts hopping between nodes. The board briefly associates to a weak satellite, loses the long-lived TCP session to Bitmern Solo, then reconnects somewhere else with a different BSSID. AxeOS may still show “WiFi connected.” The pool card goes quiet. This is mesh/extender handoff fallout, not a Bitmern Solo outage.

If mesh WiFi or range extenders are breaking your Bitaxe on Bitmern Solo — Bitaxe hops between APs, range extender mining disconnect, mesh node roaming kills stratum, or satellite AP parks the miner on a weak hop — run an ordered checklist: confirm BTC easy-start bare host btc.bitmernsolo.com with port :3132 (never treat :3102 as the Bitaxe / home default), username WALLET.worker, password x, pin the miner to the main AP (or prefer Ethernet when you can), then prove a durable Authorized / Subscribed session. This post is not the smart-connect-wifi lane, the wifi-drops-stratum lane, the wifi-24ghz-vs-5ghz lane, the guest-wifi-ap-isolation lane, the high-latency-stratum lane, or the router-reboot-recovery lane — and Current Effort is not a find guarantee.

This is the mesh / range-extender handoff lane. Band steering on one router: Smart Connect / band steering. Generic RF flaps: WiFi drops killing stratum. Manual band choice: 2.4GHz vs 5GHz. RTT once sticky: high latency stratum. Wired media: ethernet vs WiFi.

Bitmern Solo is solo infrastructure: flat 1% fee on finds only, you keep 99%. Fee context stays light here — the job is stopping mesh/extender thrash so outbound stratum to :3132 can stay subscribed.

Mesh / extender hops ≠ Smart Connect ≠ WiFi drops ≠ 2.4 vs 5 ≠ high latency ≠ router reboot

Six patterns get mixed up:

  1. Mesh / range-extender handoff — the Bitaxe roams (or is parked) across nodes/extenders so long-lived Bitmern Solo stratum flaps. That is this post.
  2. Smart Connect / band steering — one router steers bands on a single SSID. Use Smart Connect / band steering.
  3. WiFi drops (generic) — RF flaps without a multi-AP roam story. Use WiFi drops killing stratum.
  4. 2.4GHz vs 5GHz (manual) — band choice without mesh handoffs. Use 2.4GHz vs 5GHz.
  5. High latency stratum — RTT / lag once associated. Use high latency stratum.
  6. Router reboot recovery — a known AP/router restart timeline. Use router reboot recovery.

Do not invent Bitmern Solo mesh certifications, guaranteed RSSI thresholds, or a claim that Current Effort predicts finds. Product facts that matter for retest: BTC host btc.bitmernsolo.com, easy-start port :3132, username WALLET.worker, password x. Mesh vendors brand “seamless roam” differently — follow your system’s docs; Bitmern Solo does not publish an approved mesh matrix.

Why mesh hurts desk miners: phones want seamless roam; Bitaxe / ESP WiFi stacks often want a boring sticky association for hours of outbound TCP. A satellite hop that looks “fast enough” for a browser can still drop ACL/ACK timing on stratum. Prefer pinning to the main AP — or Ethernet — when the desk allows it. That is desk practice, not a Bitmern Solo radio certification.

What mesh / extender fallout usually looks like on a Bitaxe desk

Common desks:

  1. Works next to the main router; dies on the satellite — classic weak hop.
  2. Authorized after power-on; silent after the board roams overnight — handoff mid-session.
  3. Router/client list shows the Bitaxe on Node B with poor signal — parked on the wrong radio.
  4. Range extender “extends” the SSID; miner flaps every few minutes — extender BSS thrash.
  5. You already split Smart Connect bands — steering fixed; multi-AP roam remains.
  6. Latency spikes only when the phone shows “connected via Mesh-2” — hop quality, not pool death.
  7. Guest / IoT mesh SSID — roam and isolation can stack (guest WiFi / AP isolation).
  8. You already ran generic WiFi-drop checklists — you need an explicit pin-to-main-AP / Ethernet experiment.

Separate these from pure RTT once sticky (high latency stratum) and from reboot timelines (router reboot recovery).

Ordered diagnose-and-fix checklist

Run top to bottom. Stop when firmware holds a clean Authorized / Subscribed session on a deliberate main-AP (or Ethernet) path, the matching coin tab shows the worker, and accepts can move — without inventing RSSI product guarantees.

1. Confirm BTC easy-start string before you chase mesh branding

Symptom: You rebuild mesh maps while the miner still has a wrong host, leftover :3102, or a bare wallet username.

Fix: On the Bitaxe (AxeOS or equivalent), set:

btc.bitmernsolo.com

Port:

3132

Username:

WALLET.worker

Password:

x

Never treat :3102 as the Bitaxe / home default. Wallet must be registered for that coin on Bitmern Solo.

2. Confirm the Bitaxe is actually on a mesh/extender hop (not a single AP)

Symptom: You blame “mesh” while there is only one radio and a Smart Connect flap.

Fix: Check router / mesh app client list for which node/BSSID holds the Bitaxe. If it is band steering on one box, leave for Smart Connect / band steering. Stay here when the client list shows satellites / extenders.

3. Prefer a sticky main-AP association for the miner

Symptom: The board happily roams to weak nodes because “seamless” is enabled.

Fix: Pin or steer the Bitaxe to the primary AP (vendor: client steering off for that MAC, AP steering blacklist, dedicate a non-mesh SSID from the main radio, or place the miner nearer the main AP). Follow your mesh vendor’s docs — Bitmern Solo does not sell a mesh pin product.

4. Prefer Ethernet when the desk allows it

Symptom: WiFi keep working for phones; the miner still flaps on hops.

Fix: If a wired path is available to the Bitaxe (USB-Ethernet adapter / supported path per your board docs), use it. Media choice detail: ethernet vs WiFi. Mesh pin is a WiFi compromise; Ethernet removes hop thrash.

5. Prefer a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID from the main AP when you must stay wireless

Symptom: Mesh advertises one pretty name across every node and band.

Fix: Create (or use) a main-AP-only 2.4GHz SSID without extender broadcast if your gear allows it. Band hygiene: 2.4GHz vs 5GHz. Avoid guest/IoT mesh SSIDs with isolation.

6. Soft-reconnect stratum after you change the association path

Symptom: Path is healthier; firmware still shows an old dead session from the last hop.

Fix: Save pool settings (even if unchanged) or reboot the Bitaxe once so firmware opens a new outbound session to btc.bitmernsolo.com:3132. Outbound stratum should resume when association is sticky — that is desk practice, not a Bitmern mesh SLA.

7. Separate mesh hops from generic WiFi drops

Symptom: Association flaps on a single AP with no multi-node story.

Fix: Use WiFi drops killing stratum. Return here when client lists / mesh apps show node changes.

8. Separate mesh hops from Smart Connect on one router

Symptom: One box, dual-band “Smart Connect,” no satellites.

Fix: Use Smart Connect / band steering.

9. Separate mesh hops from high-latency-only symptoms

Symptom: Association is sticky on one node; RTT alone is ugly.

Fix: Use high latency stratum. Weak satellite hops can cause latency — fix the hop first, then re-measure.

10. Separate mesh hops from router-reboot recovery

Symptom: Timeline starts with a known router/mesh controller restart.

Fix: Use router reboot recovery, then return here if hop thrash continues after the system is healthy.

11. Open the matching coin tab and prove the session

Symptom: You declare victory from a phone mesh map or a LAN ping.

Fix: Open the same coin the miner uses. Confirm the worker under WALLET.worker. Card reading: dashboard workers / shares / effort.

12. Prove the session — not a luck promise

After sticky main-AP (or Ethernet) + new session:

  • Firmware holds Authorized / Subscribed (or equivalent)
  • Matching coin tab shows the worker under the expected label
  • Fresh accepts can move while the board hashes
  • You are not treating Current Effort as a find clock

Current Effort is an ops signal — not a find guarantee.

13. Soft fee reminder only after the session holds

Fee reminder only if you need it: flat 1% on finds; you keep 99%. Surviving mesh hops is desk hygiene, not a fee event.

When Smart Connect, WiFi drops, band choice, latency, or reboot is the real story

If one router steers bands without satellites, use Smart Connect / band steering. If the radio flaps without a multi-AP story, use WiFi drops killing stratum. If you already control separate bands, use 2.4GHz vs 5GHz. If association is sticky and RTT alone is the pain, use high latency stratum. If a reboot started the outage, use router reboot recovery. Prefer wired when you can: ethernet vs WiFi.

What this post will not invent

  • No Bitmern Solo mesh certifications or guaranteed RSSI / roam product claims
  • No claim that :3102 is the home Bitaxe default (easy-start is :3132)
  • No luck formulas, dollar EV, or find-time promises from Current Effort
  • No fabricated “official mesh whitelist” sold as Bitmern Solo policy
  • No claim that inbound ports are required for stratum after a hop
  • No competitor fee comparisons

Fee reminder: flat 1% on finds; you keep 99%. Sticky main-AP (or Ethernet) + correct port is desk hygiene, not a luck product.

Quick retest sequence after pinning off a weak hop

After the Bitaxe is on the main AP (or Ethernet):

  1. Confirm BTC easy-start still btc.bitmernsolo.com + :3132.
  2. Confirm username WALLET.worker, password x.
  3. Confirm client list shows the intended node/BSSID (or wired link up).
  4. Soft-reconnect or reboot the Bitaxe once so firmware opens a new session.
  5. Open the matching coin tab — not a neighbor tab.
  6. Watch for Authorized / Subscribed and a worker row — not Current Effort as a find promise.

If Smart Connect on a single box remains the design, leave for Smart Connect / band steering. If wired is available and WiFi still thrash, leave for ethernet vs WiFi.

Common mesh / extender mistakes to avoid

  1. Assuming Bitmern Solo is down because a satellite lost the miner — prove sticky association, then the matching coin tab.
  2. Treating :3102 as “the Bitmern port” — easy-start for Bitaxe / home BTC is :3132.
  3. Skipping .worker — username format matters for attribution after every reconnect.
  4. Using a non-x password — Bitmern Solo expects password exactly x.
  5. Leaving the Bitaxe on a decorative extender hop “for coverage” — phones tolerate it; long-lived stratum often does not.
  6. Inventing a Bitmern mesh certification — home gear varies; Bitmern Solo does not sell roam SLAs.
  7. Factory-resetting the Bitaxe for a hop problem — you trade a path problem for wiped pool fields.

None of these mistakes invent a mesh product. They only restore outbound stratum to a real session and proven accepts.

How this checklist fits the ops library

Start here when client lists / mesh apps show node or extender hops as the clock for the outage. Move sideways when the symptom clearly belongs to another lane.

Soft next step

After you pin the Bitaxe to the main AP (or move to Ethernet), lock BTC easy-start btc.bitmernsolo.com with port :3132, keep WALLET.worker with password x, open a new session, then confirm Authorized / Subscribed plus a worker row — before you chase luck myths or invent a mesh certification.

FAQ

Do mesh systems disconnect Bitmern Solo?

They can hand the Bitaxe between nodes or park it on a weak extender hop so outbound stratum flaps. When association is sticky on a healthy path, a correct pool string should hold a session. There is no invented Bitmern Solo mesh SLA.

What BTC port should a home Bitaxe use?

:3132 on btc.bitmernsolo.com. Never treat :3102 as the Bitaxe / home default.

What username and password does Bitmern Solo expect?

Username WALLET.worker (wallet must be registered for that coin). Password exactly x.

Is this the same as Smart Connect?

Related, but different. Smart Connect is usually one router steering bands: Smart Connect / band steering. Use this post when satellites / extenders change the BSSID.

Should I prefer Ethernet?

When the desk allows it, yes — hop thrash disappears. See ethernet vs WiFi.

Does Current Effort mean I am about to find a block?

No. Current Effort is an ops / attribution signal — not a find guarantee. See the dashboard guide.

Where do I confirm the fix on Bitmern Solo?

Matching coin tab → worker row → firmware holds Authorized / Subscribed → fresh accepts when the board hashes. Guide: dashboard workers / shares / effort.
